Arches: Spring 2008

The Sloanie / Knight crew is headed to Arches this weekend, where there will be much rejoicing. Just wanted to get everyone on the same page here...

Departure
At least 2 cars will be leaving the valley at 4pm and will be stopping in Provo for dinner. Both cars need to be ready to leave by 4.

Roll Call
I spoke with Jeffe today and it doesn't look like Mini will be joining us. =( I asked if it was finals or something, to which Jeffe responded "yeah, she gave me some crap about finals. i think her priorities are messed, but oh well." Hehe... no love from Mini!

Otherwise, everyone else seems to be on board:

Melissa
Mel
Marianne
Jesse
Mikie
Jeffe
Dan
Steve
Kate
Shawn
Melissa's friend Becky

Cars
  • Mar & Jesse's Subaru - room for 2 passengers in addition to Mar & Jesse
  • Mike's Altima - room for 3 passengers besides myself. I plan on taking Jeffe with me for sure.
  • As for who goes in what cars and who else is driving, we need to sort that out. As Mini isn't coming, we have room for four cars, tho we probably ought to still just bring three for the sake of gas, etc. Who's driving the third?
Wood
For 2 camp sites we'll need more wood than Jesse and Mar can bring down in their car. Are we really gonna do 2 campfires? Maybe some of the time? We need to coordinate bringing down some more wood, then, between my car and whoever else ends up driving.

Food
So far the plan is thus (please let us know if you have any suggestions / changes):

  • Saturday Morning: fend for yourself
  • Saturday Lunch: Kate wants to make camp pizza or something. Kate, let us know what you need others to contribute either food or money-wise.
  • Saturday Dinner: So far the idea is just to go into Moab and pick up some things to grill, everyone can do their own thing if they want-- be it hot dogs or steak or whatever.
  • Sunday Breakfast: Mar and Jesse said they'd do breakfast. Again, anything you need others to contribute money / food-wise?
Bring any additional snacks you want. Is anyone in charge of s'mores or anything? Mmm maybe I should bring some eggo waffles down... eggo smores sandwich, mmm...

It would probably be a good idea to bring down some utensils, too... esp. a steak knife if you want steak ;)

Tents
We have a couple of decent sized tents going down that can probably fit everyone. That said, consider that a fair number of us are clowns and don't go straight to sleep when we do retire to the tent for the night, hehe. BYOT if you want some privacy ;)

Miscellaneous
  • Light sabers. Bring 'em if you got 'em. As Dan's been saying all week... EPIC proportions.
  • Guitar - Jeff's flying in from Hawaii and won't have his guitar. That means Dan and / or Jesse needs to bring one if there's to be any Stacy's Mom or Say it Ain't So going on ;) Think you can bring your acoustic, Dan?
The excitement is unusually high for Arches this time around. Probably for a number of reasons-- that we've had so many good times there in the past, that we're looking forward to warm weather and beautiful scenery, that we haven't been camping in several months, and perhaps most of all it's that we're camping with some people we haven't camped with in a couple years-- we've missed Jeffe since he moved to Hawaii and are excited to go camping with him again =D And Kate and Shawn have been on missions so we've missed having them on board. Should be a blast!

Weekend of Firsts

Since I don't currently run my own blog like I should, this is as good a place as any to post a few pictures of this weekend of firsts.

First of all, I had my first baby shower. Now, I don't like being the center of attention, but it ended up being a lot of fun. The girls on my street threw it, and they were all so excited to buy baby clothes.

Little what's-her-name got some cute stuff!

This was the most adorable dress ever. I want a skirt like this!

We also got our first stroller. It's a jogging stroller, and I think it's nicer than my mountain bike.

And...a signal that summer is finally on its way, we had the first fire in the firepit! And yes, that is our Christmas tree. It sat in the backyard for 3 1/2 months. But it made a jolly blaze. :)

And next weekend...the first camping trip of the year in Arches!

The Blogging World

Yes it's true, I have joined the blogging world. I felt that it was time I hopped on the wagon. I sent many of you an e-mail with me web address but I don't think I got everyone. So, if you are one of the ones that I may have forgotten my address is seesaann.blogspot.com. Enjoy!
