Fun at Lagoon

Friday was my office Lagoon Day, and when I opened the idea up to family members, I was surprised at how many wanted to go! So I got eight tickets, and it ended up being Melissa, me, Mike, Dan, Steve, Kate, and Kate's friend Kurt. We missed Shawn and Mar and Jesse!

We all arrived at Lagoon around 5:00 or so, and the shenanigans began.

Kate and Kurt headed for the new(-ish) roller coaster called Wicked, while Mike, Dan and Steve went for something called the Cliffhanger.

Turns out it wasn't much of a cliffhanger at all... the ride had technical difficulties, so the row the boys were on didn't do much except get them wet. But Melissa and I had fun watching them get ticked off, hehe.

Dinner was at 6:00 so we went over to eat, then headed back out for more rides. Kate and Kurt headed for the Tidal Wave, and the boys and Melissa went for the White Roller Coaster. Then the boys got on the Colossus (in this picture, you can't see them that well, but they're toward the back).

They said that ride almost redeemed the lameness that was the Cliffhanger.

We stayed on that end of the park for most of the evening - Melissa went on the Wild Mouse with the boys (looks hilarious, hehe),

then the Spider roller coaster, which sounded entertaining because they all shared a car and whoever was in back of Melissa got a perfect view of her hair.

I think it was after the Spider that we got in line for the Wicked roller coaster - Dan went off to ride the Screamer on his own, but made it back to stand in line with Mike and Steve. Melissa and I ducked out of line... no way was I riding that thing.
The boys almost didn't get to ride it either... they closed the thing down for 15 minutes or so. Not sure why, but we speculated that someone had dropped something, because the workers were all scanning the tracks for something. But they finally got it going again, and the boys got on. These are my favorite pictures... I took before and after shots, because the line for this ride was so long, I wondered if it was going to be worth the wait for them. So, here they are before...

And here they are after.

Guess it WAS worth the wait, hehe! They loved it! (It was too dark to get shots of them actually riding the coaster, unfortunately!)

Then we met back up with Kate and Kurt, and Mike, Dan and Steve went toward the other end of the park, and I ended up going on the Terror Ride with Melissa and Kate and Kurt.

Clearly it was horrifying.

Then we got Icees (thanks for humoring me, guys) - they had this amazing cherry lime-aid flavor that still makes me happy to think about, mmmmm. The four of us headed home after that, and it wasn't until later that night that I learned that the shenanigans hadn't ended for the boys yet - we split from them at the Terror Ride, and they went on Flying Aces, then took the Sky Ride over to the Musical Express, where they all crammed themselves into one car, Mike tearing his pants in the process. I WISH I'd gotten a picture of them all crammed into one car on that ride! I hear there was much laughter - and a few tears, as Mike was on the outside and had both Dan and Steve leaning into him (or is the term 'crushing' appropriate here?). He said he thinks he bruised his shoulder bone, hehehe!

It was a little chilly and overcast, but it didn't rain - it was actually really nice not to stand in lines for rides and roast in the sun. It turned out to be a really nice evening!

Anyway, I think a good time was had by all! Thanks for coming, guys! :)

Oh man, pretty much everything after the Cliffhanger was great. (It seriously looks like Dan just had a major accident...heh.)

And Wicked was worth the wait. I may go to my company's lagoon day just to ride that one. Thanks for the tickets, Meloo!

(and yes. I think I have some lingering effects from the musical express. Dan and Steve did not intentionally squash me-- that's just the nature of the beast when you sit in the outside seat that I was in. I might have to write that experience up in more detail... hehe.)

Thanks for posting the pics Mel! I had not been to Lagoon for quite a while and I must admit I had a total blast! Thanks for the invite and for driving!

Suddenly, I feel so sad that I'm going to be missing many shenanigans this summer.

(But Mike and Melissa - that cramming into one car story reminded me of the Alice in Wonderland ride at Disneyland...)

Man! Memories... I want to take the kids up there, and yet... I'm not ready to take them up there. Do you remeber going to Lagun-a-beach before it was remodeled and the kid that chased us around? I loved coming up here every summer and going to Lagoon with you guys.
